  • SATURDAY'S STORM!

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Yup!  We got more snow over night and early this morning!  And I've got some pictures to prove it!

    Blizzard No

Here is an early morning view of things...cars burried and

my poor little tree struggling to stand straight!

    Blizzard No

About noon we went out to start the "big dig"!Blizzard No

The 1st thing, of course, was clearing off the cars...so we could

get at the driveway and sidewalks! Here Jay is sweeping

    snow off of my Windstar....

    Blizzard No

And here is is coming 'round the back end...sweeping a path

in front of him as he goes!

    Blizzard No

Here's what was SUPPOSED to be a pic of ME and my

Trusty Tom, the Blithe Big Red...but all Jay got was the sidewalk...

I guess that's o.k....it shows the good job TT the BBR does!

    Blizzard No

But, he DID get one of me behind the big machine...

Doesn't that look like fun?  It was really quite nice outside..

Didn't seem to freeze our toes, and there was NO WIND!!!!

Actually quite enjoyed the experience today...

    Blizzard No

Actually you probably can't see so well from this pic, but the back

of my jacket was totally covered with snow that had BLOWN OVER

THE TOP OF MY SNOW SHIELD, AND OVER MY HEAD, AND

    COVERED MY JACKET!  Wild!

So---now you have seen me at work with my Trusty Tom...Blithe Big Red...Don't you love that name!????  And I can carry on with my Saturday...Yesterday we were all wondering what the fate of our 2nd Christmas Concert would be...well...just got the word:  "WE'RE ON!"  Everyone is out and able to get around, so we're gearing up for Concert NO. 2 tonight!

Hope you all have a lovely Saturday....wish you could experience our lovely snow!!!!  Gotta go get a bowl of chili now!

  • FRIDAY'S FINALLY HERE!

    Hi there again!

Well!  I have yet to make the final decision on the name of my Blower....waiting to see if I get any more suggestions!  I got it out this morning and it started up rather swiftly, (which brought back the descriptive word, "Trusty", again!), and I spent a bit over an hour clearing the short, back driveway which had been THOROUGHLY filled when the snow plow went by yesterday.  It was almost waist high at one point in the middle!  It wasn't such HARD work with the blower (Hey Nettie, here's where the name "Blythe" really says it all!!!!) but since the snow was so deep, it took quite awhile making "sliver-like" passes through the big drift!  By the time I finished it, as well as two sidewalk entrances to the street, my feet felt like frozen rocks!  So---I "cashed it in", and went in to warm my toes in front of our little electric fireplace heater!  Sorry no one was here again to get a picture of all my labors, but maybe it'll happen sometime!

And---we are anticipating (?)...or shall we say "dreading" the next storm which is to roll in tonight!  They tell us we may expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 8" this time...but then, it could roll on south of us and just give us a bit of snow...like a few inches....At any rate, I am sooo thankful again that I have this "Trusty" machine to get me through it!  I hope and pray that this is not the beginning of another "'96-97" winter....with storms rolling through every weekend or two!   All this talk of snow also makes our Saturday Night concert and Sunday "run-out" to Fergus somewhat uncertain!  We just have to "wait and see"!  Will let you know what happens!

    Shall we sing again:

"Oh the weather outside is frightful! But the fire is so delightful!

And since we've no place to go....Let it snow!  Let is snow! Let it snow1'

Don't forget...I'm still taking suggestions for naming my "Trusty" Blower!

P.S.  I'm thinking I may have to have a "multiple-name" name for my machine!

  • Name the Snow Blower...

Hi all!  I'm still working on naming my snow-blower!

    12

This is my "Trusty" Snow blower...in case you need to see it...

So far I have come up with two possibilities:

    TRUSTY TOM

    BIG BEN

Now, anyone with an idea for a name....just leave it in the comment box!  Thanks!

  • AFTER THE BLIZZARD....

Here we are!  With smiles on our faces as we greet a beautiful....tho' COLD..... day!  It is presently -9 according to my computer weather program, but OH, so beautiful out there!  Get a look at this!

    12

What a wonderful sight!  Gorgeous clear blue sky!
Little tree still "standing guard" for us (just a little Cana'jin sentiment!)

This beautiful day makes me want to sing!!!!

"Oh what a beautiful morning! Oh what a beautiful day!

I've got a beautiful feelin'!  Everything's going my way!"

    12

Here's another view of our gorgeous day...looking across our yard...
Notice cleared sidewalks!  Gives me such a great feeling!

    12

Here's our trusty snowblower...back from the Engine Repair man...all shiny and ready to go for the next one!
I honestly don't know how we'd survive winter without this machine....
you know, we really need to give it a name!
    Any suggestions?
We've had this since the BIG winter of '96-97...
so when I use the word "Trusty"....I know whereof I am speaking!

I now have to prepare myself for the rest of the day...my gig at Waterford, then almost directly to Symphony rehearsal...5:30 today...at the Fargo Theater.....so no time in between!  Gotta go and get ready!

Hope your day is as beautiful as mine!

  • BLIZZARD FOLLOW-UP

Hi again!  Well, we made it through the blizzard!  The last posting I shared a few pictures of the effects of "blizzard 12.14.08"...but later on, I took a few more.  It appeared that things were becoming worse as the wind picked up and blew the snow around even MORE!  I thought I'd share a few pictures as the evening wore on:

    12

This shows my poor little tree, later in the afternoon...
still standing, but nearly burried in the snow!

    12

Here is another view from the front window,
showing the build-up on the porch railing...I'm amazed the snow
could sit there like that with the wind "howling" about!

    12

This is a view out our back door...looking North across the street.
Things are a bit on the "hazy" side, would you say?  I love all
    those lights down the street!

    12

Here is Jay trying to clear SOME of the snow off of
our front porch...it was quite a job getting the door open because
of all the drifted in snow!
The next picture shows the depth of the snow
on the porch at about 7 p.m.....

    12

The snow you see on that part of the porch it still THERE!
It has not been removed...too heavy to lift up over the railing!
We'll have to come up with another plan, eh?

    12

This is the final picture of the day...night has fallen, and though
the snow has let up, the wind was still blowing!  Tree still standing!
    I say that deserves a "Hoo-ah!"

The temps fell dramatically overnight, and with the wind gusting from 30-45 miles an hour it made for some serious wind-chill!  This morning the snow had stopped, and wind was diminished considerably, but the temps were very cold!  Tonight we are to get down to the mid-20 BELOW range! It's "plug-in-the-car time!"

Isn't it a pity that the weather is our main topic of conversation these days?  Oh!  And to top it all off...we had a couple of people from the WEATHER CHANNEL here to film and talk about our storm!  Makin' it national!

I COULD get into a song here....

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I've bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

    When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

    The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

On this happy "note"....I will wish you all a happy winter!
